Midweek Madness RANKED
Today we're trying something new
Welcome back and today we are tying something different with midweek madness. Every third week I will be doing a special ranked edition in which I randomly select any team from the AP top 25. And you know how everything is run at this point so lets jump to it.
#16 Miami
2018 Record 3-1 (Won against Florida International)
The Hurricanes have a more run-centered offense averaging about 209 yds/gm on the ground as well as a not to shabby passing game with 239 yds/gm. So I would say that the Hurricanes are a well balanced team in the way of yardage. Now in the way of who's starting, its still unknown But it will either be Malik Rosier or N'Kosi Perry for that starting spot. Rosier has been the starter throughout this season and has average 152 yd/gm to go with 5 TD's and 2 INT's which is not bad but has struggled with accuracy throughout his college career as this season he is sitting with a 52% passing rate, that's bad. Now with Perry, he has played the last 3 games and is averaging 79 yds/gm with 6 TD's and 2 INT's. while he hasn't had that much playing time, he does beat Rosier in completion rate as he is sitting at 66%. If it were me I would give it to the Rosier, but who knows, everybody is doing that 2 QB system this year so its a possibility that both can play.
Now the NC is not that great when It comes to defense but the one thing that jumps out is the pass rush as the are giving up 194 yds/gm. That can really limit the passing game. But the Tar Heels don't have the greatest run defense as the give up 202 yds/gm, this can hurt them as Miami might do more with the run game and be very successful.
North Carolina
2018 Record: 1-2 (Won against Pitt)
North Carolina has a pretty balanced offense with the emphasis on the passing game as the average 228 yds/gm through the air and 166 yds/gm on the ground. Now unlike Miami, UNC actually has a starting QB and that will be Nathan Elliott. who is averaging 223 yds/gm with 3 TD's and 4 INT's. with a 56% pass rate.
It would be a miracle if UNC can get anything going against this Miami defense as the allow 145 yds/gm through the air and 78 yds/gm on the ground. If there's going to be pressure, its going to be on the O-line to protect Elliott as he doesn't have that great of a passing rate and has thrown more INT's than touchdowns.
Verdict
This should be an easy game for Miami even with the uncertainty at the QB spot. UNC just doesn't have the defense to contain Miami's high power offense. And UNC just doesn't have the offensive fire power to rattle the Hurricanes D-line.
