Midweek Madness: Hoops Edition
Were keeping this train rolling
Even though college football (for the most part) is done, we now shift our attention over to college hoops. Where the MM committee has decided to showcase different conference teams rather than just one. So welcome to the first Conference showcase where we will showcase the Pac-12 all week long starting with Utah
Utah
2018/19 Record: 3-3 (Lost to Northwestern)
Utah is averaging 76 PPG while shooting 55% from the floor and 36% from the arch. On the defensive end they are allowing 73 PPG while holding opposing teams to 51% on the floor and 38% from the arch. As a team, they are averaging 35 TRB/gm compared to opponents 29 TRB/gm, and out-rebound opponents by a margin of 6. But they commit around 14 turnovers per game compared to 12 by their opponents.
Tulsa
2018/19 Record: 5-2 (Won against Texas-Arlington)
the Golden Hurricanes are averaging 78 PPG while shooting 55% from the floor and 36% from three. On defense, the allow 71 PPG while allowing 49% from the floor and 34% from the three. As a team, they are averaging 34 TRB/gm to opponents 35 TRB/gm. Getting out-rebounded by a margin of 1. And only commit 12 turnovers.
Verdict
Both teams are about dead even, and each team slightly outdoes a team by a thin margin, Tulsa I think has just enough to make it a close one. Tulsa
Next in our little double header, WSU.
WSU
2018/19 Record 4-1 (Won against Cal St. Northridge)
The cougars average 85 PPG with 53% from the floor and 35% from deep. On defense, the allow 73 PPG while holding teams to 51% from the floor and 30% from deep. As a team, they are averaging 40 TRB/gm with turning the ball over very much as the average 12 turnovers a game compared to 15 that the opponents commits.
New Mexico St.
2018/19 Record: 5-1 (Won against Texas El-Paso)
The Aggies are averaging 80 PPG with 54% shooting on the floor and 32% from deep. On defense, they hold teams to 69 PPG with an average shooting of 46% from the floor and 44% from deep. As a team they average they average 37 TRB/GB and gold teams to 29 TRB/gm. They are a force to be reckoned with on the offensive glass as they average 13 and allow only 5.
Verdict
One advantage I see for WSU is the fact that the Aggies are not great when covering the three. So that can allow for some open shots It too close to decide and I'm going to pick the safe route here, NMSU.
