Purdue v Rutgers
Purdue returns to Mackey as they square off against Rutgers
Purdue got a nice win against a really good Badger team on Friday, and will now look to defend their home court when the Scarlet Knights come to Mackey.
Purdue's offense is averaging 78 PPG with two players averaging double figures a game. Those being Carsen Edwards (25 PPG), and Ryan Cline (13 PPG). Purdue overall does very well from the floor, averaging 45%. But the guys to watch closely will be Matt Haarms (59% FG), Nojel Eastern (54% FG), and Trevion Williams (55% FG). The guys that can be threats from deep are Edwards (38%), Aaron Wheeler (36%), and Cline (40%). On the defensive end, we hold teams to just 8 offensive boards a game while forcing 14 turnovers a game and 70 PPG.
I am still baffled on how a really good OSU team walked into Piscataway and loss. Because this Rutgers team is bad. Averaging 68 PPG on offense, and Eugene Omoruyi one of Rutgers star players (15 PPG, 48% FG, 36% 3-pt) is out indefinitely with a hand injury. Outside of him, Rutgers only has one other person averaging double figures a game. That being Geo Baker (13 PPG). and Rutgers as a whole is not a good shooting team as they average 41% from the floor. The only person I would watch out for is Shaquille Doorson (64% FG). Rutgers only deep threats are Geo Baker (35%) and Peter Kiss (33%). And while their offense is trash, they do have a pretty good defense, holding teams to 68 PPG and forcing 13 turnovers. But they also commit 13 turnovers per game.
This should be an easy game especially against a Rutgers team that is bad everywhere except for defense. And while there are some positives to this Rutgers team (like how they are an aggressive rebounding team that will beat teams on the defensive glass) but this team is so flawed, and with their only good player out for the season, this should be a cakewalk in Mackey.
